ReplyDeleteThe senior citizen's home displayed in your pictures appears to be a place which offers quality life to its residents. I'm quite impressed by the nice cottages amidst green plants and trees.
I have heard about this place! Seems to be a healthy, good place for the senior citizens. Thank you! We will have a look when we visit Coimbatore next time!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures look good! But the concept so alien still in India.
ReplyDeleteI had communicated with them and liked the place, but couldnt go personally to see, now you substantiated my belief. I myself always dream of living in such place ....surroundings so green..
ReplyDeleteThe place looks serene and beautiful with so much of greenery around .The cottages look very cosy , the exterior paints are just wonderful.Looks like a nice place for senior citizens or for that matter for anyone .Loved meeting Ninja and Nancy .

@Anilkurup: These so called Sr.Citizen's Homes should actually be called Retirement Retreats. They provide a lot of comforts & conveniences for the Seniors.
ReplyDeleteNow a days Sr.Citizens move to such homes for the following reasons:
a) Sons/daughters are busy with their own careers/families that they find parents a "nuisance" and hence fix them up in retirement homes.
b)Parents who are fiercely independent and are financially sound prefer to stay away from their children so that they can lead their own lives.
Either way the elders lead a comfortable secure and well cared for life and enjoy all modern conveniences like TV,Telephone, computer, internet, library. They have centralized kitchen & dining hall as well a room for recreational activities. Cultural programs are organized periodically and there is a prayer hall. Doctors are available on call.
When ever they want they can take a break for a few months to travel # see places or to go and spend time with their children/grand children etc.
nice information

ReplyDeleteNice to see such cheerful retirement homes. I like tree-lined entrance driveway and the little gardens around the cottages. :)
ReplyDeleteThe rice fields and palm trees remind me of Goa. Lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post. Beautiful work again. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice place, no doubt. Maybe it's my misconception but there's always a certain sadness that comes to mind when I see there elderly care homes.
ReplyDeleteWonderful sequence of photographs of a great place.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely "Tapovan" would be a nice place for the Seniors who are otherwise not wanted at home. I really become sad at their plight nothwithstanding the amenities/facilities available to them at such "Homes"
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place!

Loved the post...Being young with two ageing parents, I believe that sending our elders to a retirement home is not much different than sending our children to a boarding school....there comes a time when it is essential and GOOD for all concerned. I for one wud love to live here. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a very nice place to live. Although, I believe that we should live by ourselves independently even when we are old, just as we do when we are young. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteThese places are becoming a reality of life in India too!
ReplyDeleteI am visiting via texwisgirl. You live in an amazing part of the world, and I really enjoyed scrolling down and seeing the photos from south India.
ReplyDeleteI am also interested in your response to anilkurup. Somehow, I've always thought of the US as being the only place where we have places like this for the elderly. Some of our places are not as good as the one you describe here, but I think, in general, they are improving.
Namaste....
ReplyDeleteLove the fig trees and coconut tree, reminds me of home. enjoyed it all.
thanks as always you help me explore the world i am not able to physically right now.

Beautiful pictures make me feel it is a very peaceful place, great for seniors if they accept the change!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very peaceful and beautiful place. Also its so clean, which is such a nice thing. Loved meeting Ninja and Nancy!!
ReplyDeleteLovely senior citizens home. Looks very exclusive and expensive. Only the rich will be able to stay here, I presume. Very peaceful atmosphere and I am sure the service will be good also.
ReplyDeleteI wish the government which collects huge amount of taxes from the the citizens of this country comes forward to build some senior citizens home to provide relief to many poor senior citizens who are totally neglected by society.
A government which is interested in the welfare of the its people would undertake such useful things as building senior citizens home for the poor and running it efficiently rather than selling liquor and lotteries as they do in Kerala to siphon off a large chunk of the income into the politicians bottomless pockets.
I can see a large number of poor senior citizens begging on the roads, they have no money to buy medicines and they have undergo so much suffering in their old age. The government is doing nothing for them although the democratic form of government is for the people people.
Your post is an eye opener to what is happening in this democratic country called India.
Best wishes,
Joseph
thank you for the suggestion about word verification, I took it off. I didn't realize that it became totally incomprehensible... what were they thinking at google?! thanks again :)
ReplyDeleteusually old age homes are associated with a lot of bad stories only :( but this place looks interesting ... and nice pics
ReplyDelete@Joseph Pulikotil: Yes you are absolutely correct. The kind of homes that I have shown is primarily for people with money. The poor will have no access to such places.Unfortunately the Govt is doing precious little to improve the plight of Sr.Citizens from the poor strata of Society. There are a few social organizations/ NGO's who are doing some good work in this area, but such groups are few & far apart. A lot more work is required both from Govt as well as as from the Corporate Sector who can also contribute as part their Social Goals.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful pics. You have great photography skills!!
ReplyDeleteI also disabled the verification words on both blogs and got 13 spam comments so far in just three days... So annoying! Glad moderation is still enable.

nice post with photos
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and peaceful place for the senior citizens. As usual loved your lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteThe pups are such darlings! They have enhanced the beauty of this home.
Wish them all a wonderful stay .....
I had visited this place sometime back and this place pales in comparison to other retirement homes in the community. The place is a long way off from the city with hardly any transportation facilities available. the long narrow road to the main road has no lights and i shudder to think if our respected old citizens have to visit a hospital in the night. Residents can get bored very easily here since there is no nearby shops or places they could visit. This is a bad place to live if you do not have your own transportation. I had asked the manager if dogs were allowed and he said NO and now I see pets being allowed. How come they changed rules after the fact? Please understand that some residents do not like pets in the area. So this can be a real nuisance. All in all, a mere post on the net which only talks about the good things may tend to create a false impression on readers. Thank you
ReplyDeleteHello Rajesh..I would like to know any other good senior citizen housing you know about...please let me know
ReplyDeleteDear Rajesh: You are perfectly entitled to your views.Your points are well presented. I am neither recommending or denouncing this place. I have simply presented some pics I took there. People who plan to live there must make their own inquiries and decide for themselves.
ReplyDeleteR.Ramakrishnan
Hi Renu:
ReplyDeletePlease find a short list below:
swasthya homes
sundarvalli
covai group
vanaprastha
anandham
nandhavanam
Please note Iam not recommending any or all of these. I would suggest folks interested in using the trial stay option so they can see for themselves the standards. Thx
Dear Ramakrishnan,
ReplyDeleteBefore I forget, thanks for the pictures. You have correctly mentioned that at the end of the day - it is for that individual sot decide which is best.
The subject of retirement homes has fascinated me for some time and I have extensively researched on them and seen atleast a dozen of them personally. Our elders have a quite a few choices nowadays when compared to a few years back. Broadly, I can mention a few points which any prospective buyer of retirement homes needs to consider:
1) Background of the builder: An retirment home is not something which any builder can build. Such builders should atleast have built a couple so we can see for ourselves how are they are functioning and being maintained.
Disappointly quite a few builders have entered into this field with the objective of making a quick buck so we should be extra careful here. I have seen a few retirement homes which does not even have an intercom (in case of emergency). This shows how inexperienced the builder is
2) Wherever possible, buy a retirement home which is completed in all respects. This is what differentiates buying a retirement home from buying a flat. One can buy a flat in a 'under construction' stage but with a retirement home you cannot afford a situation where some of the facilities promised by the builder is not commissioned. The principle you follow here is " You buy what you see"
I hope this helps to prospective buyers. Cheers.
Thanks Rajesh!..yeah we shall chk them first..
ReplyDeleteI am planning to buy one unit. I want to know on the pros and cons from who had already purchased
ReplyDeleteRenu, could you visit any of the senior citizens home in coimbatore. If yes, please share your experience and views with us.....so that we can benefit from it. Comments of Rajesh is quite balanced and reflects the prevailing scenario..... Narasimhan

TAPOVAN, coimbatore was good in early days. Now the management is only money minded and the Senior Citizens are suffering. Many Government departments have visited the place on complaints from the senior citizen and still it is going from better to worse. No improvement.
