Tiruvaiyaaru or Land of Five Rivers

Tiruvaiyaaru is the small temple town near Thanjavur which has become famous due the incredible fame attained by by one of the greatest composers of Carnatic Music - Saint Thiagaraja.
Tiruvaiyaru  means confluence of five rivers. There are five rivers that converge in this small town are:       The Five Rivers are Arisilaaru,Vennaaru,Vettaaru,Kudamruttiayaaru and Cauveryaaru. I traveled in Thanjavur last week and was lucky to be able to see and take pics of each of these five rivers which are posted below. You will note that all names end with "aaru" which means "river" in Tamil.

  1. What a stunning collection of Pics Ramu. perhaps you would consider sharing them with the world in a book, just as I share words but a pic is worth a thousand words.
