Here are some pictures clicked during my visit to Guruvayoor last week. The devotee turnout was low so we had wonderful and peaceful evening darshan of Sri Guruvayoor Appan. We also witnessed the magnificent Seeveli (parading of three caparisoned elephants with one massive tusker and two she elephants flanking him with the idol of Guruvayoorappan atop the tusker) at night which was mind blowing: The devotees could stand very close to the to these magnificent beasts. There was a cordon of mahouts all around forming a protective ring.We followed this up with another serene early morning darshan during Nirmalayam.

What is going on in that last picture? Were we supposed to see a picture of the elephants parading?

ReplyDeleteWe were there the weekend before last and it was SO crowded. And we missed the Sheeveli. :( We got there a little too late and had just one night to spend there. Hubby so wanted to show that to the little one. Maybe next time. :)
ReplyDeleteStill in God's Own Country or back in US ? Have a nice vacation. If you are passing through Coimbatore do give me a tinkle. We will be delighted to have you all over to our home for a visit/dinner......
DeleteThe place seems to be maintained well. It is a long time now that I have been there.
ReplyDeleteI suddenly have this strong desire to visit the temple.
Thanks for the pics.
Beautiful details of the temple.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics Rama and am now longing to visit this place!
ReplyDeleteThis temple has been on my wish list for long. Glad to know you had a peaceful darshan, the pictures are all beautiful. And how wonderful to watch the elephant parade, surely a fascinating experience in itself.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely to see the temple tank with so much water. Many temples down south have their tanks gone dry :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a serene place!
ReplyDeleteI like going to temples when the rush is minimum. Beautiful shots.
Beautiful photos on the temple! Only my father had went to this temple. Glad you enjoyed the visit :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure a visit to this holy and glorious temple strengthens one both physically and spiritually.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures, especially the ones with the water, and the flower vendors - are awsome.
A very impressive set of images. The temple looks grand and I have always been partial to flower photographs.
ReplyDeleteHi,welcome comeback. Elephants' parade in the magnificent temple must be wonderful,I think.
ReplyDeleteThe way of white flowers' display is lovely and fun.
Have a nice day!
I love the way they arrange the flowers shown above. And the "darshan" interests me. It's like meeting the Pope and feeling the presence of God in the process. Religious practices the world over always have parallelisms.
ReplyDeleteI had been to this temple twice, but long back. I feel like visiting this temple again after seeing your beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteLovely..!
